in Rosemont, IL.

I was a total badass,

a total whore,

and a Narutard.

HELLZ YEAH. Usual report that no one reads with images people look at while saying "wtf?" to come!

Edit: I was also Paine who had glowing spheres of light, along with Rikku and Yuna but I don't have any images of that yet. :'<

Woot! So cool! Now if I knew more anime, I imagine I'd be even more impressed, but pretty awesome, Miyuka!

Eleven, one of those pictures is actually an optical illusion! Here it is... I'll let you try to find it first.

Did you figure out what it is? Ok, I'll tell you... if you look very closely, there's a 4th person in that picture and it's a guy! I know! Crazy hey? I didn't see it at first either Razz

LoL, all kidding aside, it looks like you had a ton of fun, Miyu. Is this a festival of some kind? I've never been big on anime myself... though I did watch and love Hikaru no Go! Razz Hahaha, yea, that's the only one... cept maybe the Sailor Moon they put on YTV when I was a kid Very Happy

11teen: Oh god no, furries are the devil I so agree with you on that. If that's all you see anime as... oh you're missing out :<

Bright: Ah I didn't know, I would love ot meet more Horadrim peoples :3 So far I've met/known.... 9

My next convention is in Cleveland, OH. Then Baltimore, MD if anyone is near that area let me know Very Happy!

---------------------------------

Ok I'll explain what all these pictures are from (I'm so copying and pasting from sources):

An anime convention is an event or gathering with a primary focus on anime, manga and Japanese culture. They are multi-day event hosted primarily at convention centers and hotels. They feature a wide variety of activities and panels. Anime conventions are also used as a vehicle for industry, in which studios, distributors, and publishers represent their anime related releases.

Anime conventions typically feature a guest list as part of their makeup, though the only criteria for someone to be a guest is for the convention to state they are one. As such, a guest can be an industry figure, a talent(like drawing artist, performer, etc), or even a fandom community figure.

Guests may be featured or responsible for specialty events at the convention, such as concerts, casting calls, or special announcements/news releases. Mostly voice actors from anime or video games make their appearance. An anime convention represents an opportunity to interact with such individuals that may not be possible outside the event. (Such as Otakon in Baltimore, MD. The Japanese voice actor of L from Death Note is going to be there *_*)

Panels

Anime conventions often have panels, which are open ended discussions involving some pre-determined topic, usually related in at least some way to anime. Topics can include manga, favorite voice-actors, details about a particular anime show, series, or movie. Panels may also be about more general topics such as cosplay, fanfiction, Video Games, or even industry related topics such as production or licensing.

Workshops

Slightly different than a Panel, a workshop is more like guided instruction through a major or specific task, typically instructed by an individual (often a convention guest). The instructor could either demonstrate or instruct people on how to accomplish tasks such as how to draw manga, make computer animation, or how to become a voice actor.

Video screenings

Most anime conventions hold screenings of actual anime shows or movies because the circulation of the material and theatrical releases continues to trail Japan in other locales. Because of this, screenings and video rooms are less common in Japanese conventions, unless promoting a specific studio. Some western conventions have several video screening rooms, running a varied schedule of shows, some of which are available in the US, and other are fan-subtitled with no domestic publisher.

Contests

Most conventions include contests. Contests can also focus around costumes(or cosplay), art works (drawn, sculpted, painted), anime-related music videos, video games, dice games, card games, and many other activities. In some cases, tangible prizes have been offered as winnings in these contests.

Dealers' Room

An Exhibit Hall or Dealers' Room is also popular at most conventions. Publishing companies, distributors, and other proprietors often arrive to exhibit and/or sell their newest products to fans. Wares can include graphic novels manga, anime media, action figures, apparel or premade costumes, music CDs, software, decorations, toys, art books, specialty foods, and many more. Pirated items are often addressed as well.

Cosplay (What I Doooo)

is a subculture centered on dressing as characters from manga, anime, tokusatsu, and video games, and, less commonly, Japanese live action television shows, fantasy movies, Japanese pop music bands, Visual Kei, fantasy music stories (such as stories by the band Sound Horizon), novels, and anything in the real world being unique and dramatic (or their moe anthropomorphic form). However, in some circles, "cosplay" has been expanded to mean simply wearing a costume.

Cosplay costumes are radically different from typical Halloween costumes. Because the object of cosplay is to literally become one's character, the intricate details of the costumes are critical. Costumes must meticulously adhere to the designs of the characters' attire, and even more generic costumes are often elaborately artistic. Rigorous attention to detail may include ensuring the seams are aligned properly, thread colors are appropriate, and fabric colors precisely match the character and their attire. Some cosplayers will buy their costumes from talented artists, while others may spend months creating the perfect cosplay outfit.

Because the costumes are so elaborate, like-minded people gather to see others' costumes, show off their own elaborate handmade creations, take lots of pictures, and possibly participate in best costume contests at different cosplay events.

Conventions in America often include both cosplay and costume contests. The cosplay or "masque" (masquerade) is a skit contest done in cosplay costume. The costume contest is often a test of skill, design, and audience reaction. The contestants are judged either before hand or on stage and then walk across said stage while the audience cheers (or not, depending on the etiquette of the venue). The increased popularity of convention costuming has led to the addition of several relatively new cosplay-based events, adding to the traditional masquerade and hall costume contests. Such events include the Anime Dating Game, and Cosplay Human Chess, where participating cosplayers act out their characters' role in the game accordingly.

I tend to enter the masq for the first time to see if I can win me a shiny award. I've wanted to for awhile now but didn't feel any of my outfits were up to par in a competitve level so I'ma enter for hte first time in this: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y200/DarkMiyuka/minerva.jpg

No XD I'm not like those people at all, it's a means to hang out and meet new people. It's so much easier when you know everyone has common interests. Pretty much the only extreme geeky thing I've done is post on convention forums to join gatherings of cosplayers from the same anime/game and have a re-enactment photoshoot. But you come out of those with new friends and awesome photos Very Happy. I got into cosplay because I love making things. I see something challenging and I MUST make it but I've never really had use for what I make until I discovered cons.
